Wellington North

The Lions Club of Wellington North is a group of 14 people (both men and women) from all walks of life with a desire to serve our community.

Our club has its regular meetings (covering both dinner and business) at 6 pm on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday evening of each month, with guest speakers at some meetings.

We currently meet at the Thistle Inn  New Zealand's oldest surviving tavern and restaurant operating from its original site on the corner of Mulgrave Street and Kate Sheppard Place (near the Wellington Railway Station).

Lions are a network of 1.3 million men and women in over 200 countries who work together and share the satisfaction that comes from helping others.

AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

Our Club recently provided an AED located at Countdown, Crofton Downs. At that time (April 2016) we supplemented this with an evening of instruction by Wellington Free Ambulance in CPR and the use of a Defibrillator in the event of an emergency.

As a result of the success of that evening we are repeating it this year (2017) at 6.30 pm on Wednesday 17th May, again at the Khandallah Town Hall.  This is an informal opportunity for the public, young and old, to be informed about this life saving technique. Instruction will be given by the Wellington Free Ambulance.  A gold coin donation will be welcome.

An associated article about this also provides a lot of information about Lions - including who to contact if you are interested in becoming one (Note that our club’s contact details are also on the right hand side of this page).

Keratoconus project

Our club is also involved in a Keratoconus project.  Keratoconus is a progressive thinning disorder of the Cornea (a part of the eye), which is like the glass on your watch.  More information about this project is found on the two pages Keratoconus 1 and Keratoconus 2

Click here for the Keratoconus1 page   and here for the Keratoconus2 page

Funding has been provided by Lions Clubs and the public so that a Corneal Cross-Linking procedure referred to in the Keratoconus 2 page could go ahead.  The photographs below were taken during this prodcedure.
