  • Lions Club of Cambridge 50th Jubilee

    Lions Club of Cambridge 50th Jubilee On the Saturday 28 April 2012 the club celebrated 50 years service to the Community of Cambridge and surrounding district with a Jubilee dinner and function in the Cambridge Town Hall. The function was attended by 125 people made up of past and present club members, widows of past members and supporters from other clubs in the region. The attendees participated in an evening designed to maximize the chance for past and present members to reminisce the years gone by! After the official welcome and introduction of special guests, a moments silence was taken to remember past members and absent friends Guests of honour were; The Mayor of the Waipa District Council, The clubs sole remaining Charter (Foundation) Member, Phil Macdairmid who was there at the beginning when the club started in 1961. Two past club Presidents, David Jecks and Ian Rogers, who joined the club in the first 6 months of existence. The attendees were addressed by the President of the Lions Doug Taranaki and the Mayor of the Waipa District, Alan Livingston (see attachments for detail of speeches) The Charter Member Phil Macdairmid flanked by Past Presidents Ian Rogers and David Jecks then cut the Jubilees Cake. The official section of the proceedings concluded with the Guest Speaker Murray Thompson, JP, kept the gathering well entertained delivering a lighthearted presentation describing some of his more memorable experiences encountered while serving as a Civil Celebrant
