Seven Sharp
Cambridge Lions had an even busier weekend than usual with a visit from TVNZ Presenter Matt Chisholm and cameraman. This coming week is NZ Volunteers Week and Cambridge Lions had the honour of being chosen to represent Lions NZ, so our regular Garage Sale at the Lions Shed was the main topic that we concentrated on. The goal was to produce a 4 minute program for “Seven Sharp that will go to air later this week.

To assist in the production Executive Officer David Dawick travelled from Auckland to join the Cambridge team and spent a very busy morning mixing and mingling with the crowd. It was also noted that EO David purchased a radio from the Lions shed (a bargain it was too), left it aside to be picked up later, only to find it had been sold again! “How else do you think we make our money David?

When the TV crew arrived early on Saturday morning they accompanied our 'truckies' to do a pick-up of household goods and furniture, they then returned to the shed, unloaded, shared the all-important morning tea of scones, pikelets etc. then filmed and interviewed the public and fellow Lions in all the different areas of the shed. The food caravan was also on site and popular on such a wet miserable day, selling sausages and onions in bread and also hot coffee.

The TV crew were at the shed for 5 hours and President Faye Gohns played a star role promoting Lions in the community. Look out for Executive Officer David as he lays back in some of our fine furniture (you try it you buy it David) as he too promotes our organisation. The rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of the team and a lot of fun was had with the TV Crew.

It was a great day with a good turnout of Lions TV Stars ably assisted by our newly formed Cambridge Leo's Club and Tamahere club who help swell the numbers. The Cambridge Leos also made a presentation of a cheque towards the Waikato BOP Cancer Society’s Lions Lodge, the money was raised through a fund raising function at their school, they are now busy organising a concert for the proceeds to go to the Nepal Earthquake.

Thanks to all for getting behind this project and look for the program on “Seven Sharp later this week currently programed for either Wednesday or Friday night BUT things can change.

We hope that all Lions Clubs are going to reap the benefit in some way from what this program has been produced for, it was certainly FUN!
