Pat Ryan Youth Award

DG Leo Danz receives the Pat Ryan Youth Award on behalf of Opunake Lakeside and Opunake Lions Clubs, for their combined “Reading is Fun” project. Lions and celebrities undertook reading assignments at local schools, promoting PIP Wayne Madden’s literacy programme.


1. To encourage vigorous club participation in youth activities.

2. To stimulate friendly rivalry between clubs and districts by implementing exciting and adventurous youth programmes.

3. To enable worthy projects to be recorded and made available for use of other clubs.


1. Each club will be allowed to make one entry in each Lions year.

2. Project details should be presented to the District Governor by email and supported with additional documentation and photographs as the club sees fit.

3. The closing date at district level will be 30 September, with the project having to be completed in the immediate prior Lions fiscal year.

4. District entries are to be presented to the Executive Officer by 7 February each year.

5. The Multiple District winner will be announced at the Multiple District Convention. The winning club undertakes to:

(a) Meet the transportation costs of the award to/from the club

(b) Engrave the award with the club name and year.

6. Judging - Judges at district level shall be appointed by the incumbent District Governor. Judges at Multiple District level shall be appointed by the Council Chairman.

7. A constant standard of judging shall be applied both at district and multiple district level on the following basis:

(a) Originality and initiative 35 marks

(b) Benefit to the participants and the community 20 marks

(c) Number of youths involved 20 marks

(d) Club member involvement 25 marks
