DG Tony’s Thoughts.....

A Happy New Year to you all.  I hope that you had an enjoyable break with family and friends during the festive season.  Summer has arrived with some very warm days.

With this Lions year into the last six months I hope that clubs will be continuing their good work and activities in supporting their districts.

On December 3rd, VDG 202E John Whyte and I presented a cheque to the Cancer Society in Christchurch for $11,100, raised towards the running costs of their mini bus for transporting cancer patients from Daffodil House to the hospital for treatment.  A big thank you to the clubs in 202J (Fairlie, Geraldine Lions Club, Mayfield and Districts, Temuka District, Timaru Host and Waimate Whitehorse) that supported this canvas for funds.

Last week I met with the GAT team (Global Action Team) to discuss ideas over the concern of membership numbers, where we must all work to get our numbers back up above 1250.  At the end of December this stood at 1236.

Our District Convention which is fast approaching on the 29 – 31st March is being organised by the Rakaia Lions.  Please can I encourage you to get your registrations in before the 12th March.

I hope all clubs are organising their “Flower Power” decorated cake for the auction to raise funds for the Child Mobility fund.

Kind regards,

District Governor Tony
